‘When I first came to New York City in 2010, I found myself standing on the crossing of streets and avenues taking in the symphony of daily life with my eyes and ears. Ever since that initial experience of the city, I lived with the question how can I capture the essence of a place like New York in the single photograph. I wanted to find a way to record the whole spectrum of my feelings about this place.’

The Moving Camera project examines the everyday dynamics of the city. Maciej Markowicz turned his van into giant camera that he drives around following the motion and rhythm of the city. He uses the prime photographic device to translate the light into color on paper. In a diverse array of unique negative photographs, made by exposing directly on color photographic paper with the camera set in motion, Markowicz challenges the human perception of the urban landscape and explores the density of city life.
